Darjeeling has a narrow-gauge train line running to New
Jalpaiguri and known as the “The Darjeeling
Himalayan Railway”.
This railway was built between 1879 and 1881 and led to
the expansion of Darjeeling as a town.
The trip we went on this day was to Ghum and took us about
40 minutes and involved two stop: one to refresh the water supply on the steam
train and the other to take in the view at Batasia Loop.
The train line runs on the road, very close to houses and
shops. You could almost grab items from the shop fronts.
