On
the way to Jaipur, about an hour out of Agra, is the former palace complex of Fatehpur
Sikri.
The
city was founded in 1569 by the Mughal emperor, Akbar who decided to move the
capital from Agra.
The
city was the capital from 1571 to 1585, when it was abandoned (some say due to
lack of water). Akbar moved his capital again, this time to Lahore.
The
palace is quite interesting to wander around and has commanding views of the
surrounding countryside.
